School Choice 2024-2025

Canton City Schools provides a variety of specialized programs tailored to the interests and talents of each student. From arts and sciences to non-traditional learning environments, the district offers resources and experiences to students to pursue their passions and reach their potential. Canton City Schools guides students to find classes and learning experiences aligned with their personal interests, talents, and goals. From year-round academics and specialized arts programs to hands-on STEM learning, each pathway supports creativity, rigor, and readiness for future careers.

We Value Student Choice!  Students, along with their parents/guardians have several opportuntiies thorughout their academic career to choose schools that align wth their interests and passions.  When entering grades K, 4, 7, and 9, parents/guardians will have the opportunity to select from a choice school or the traditional pathway, offering flexibility to meet individual student needs and interests. Parents will receive detailed information about the selection process via ParentSquare soon. Please note that choosing a school is not guaranteed, as availability may vary.

During Kindgarten registration, families have several options to start their child on a path to best fit their needs. Families can choose have their child attend their neighborhood school, apply for Arts Academy, AIM Academy, or Portage Montessori Collaborative School. If your familiy is interested in a choice school please make sure to complete all registration steps as quickly as possible as space is limited.

AIM Academy 
For K-6 students, AIM Academy’s year-round calendar includes 9-week learning periods followed by a 3-week break, offering students enrichment and extended learning opportunities. This structure supports continuous engagement and a well-rounded education.

 


Arts Academy 
The Arts Academy (K-6) fosters students’ talents in vocal and instrumental music, visual art, theater, and dance. With programs for students identified with high ability, it provides an inspiring environment for young artists to develop their skills.

 


Portage Collaborative Montessori School 
PCMS (PreK-6) serves students from five Stark County districts and offers a Montessori-based education in multi-age classrooms. With a focus on independent and cooperative learning, the school provides a hands-on approach requiring prior Montessori experience for Grade 3 and above. 

For 4th grade, students have the opportunity to stay in their current K-6 building (Arts, AIM, Partick or Worley); attend their neighborhood 4-6 schools (Clarendon, McGregor or Youtz), or choose to attend either Arts or STEAMM Academy. Neighborhood schools offer the advantage of a close-knit, familiar community where students and families can build lasting relationships. Neighborhood schools foster a supportive environment where children feel connected to their peers and the broader community, making it easier for families to stay engaged and involved. Neighborhood school assigment is determined by the student’s home address. For information on the choice schools see the information below. Arts Academy

STEAMM Academy 
For grades 4-8, STEAMM Academy offers immersive, hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and medicine. Designated as a STEAM school by Ohio, students engage in subjects like coding, culinary arts, engineering, and agriculture, exploring potential career pathways in high-demand fields. 

 

As students enter 7th grade, they have the option to attend Crenshaw Middle School,  Early College, or STEAMM Academy. Each middle school has their own unique opportunities. Please make sure to fill out the school choice application; some schools have limited spots.

Crenshaw Middle School 

Serving grades 7 through 8, Crenshaw dedicated to fostering excellence, leadership, and community in all aspects of student life. We are committed to providing the best possible learning environment where every student can thrive. At Crenshaw, we strive to cultivate a supportive, empowering atmosphere where students not only succeed academically but grow as leaders and active members of our school community.


Early College @ Lehman 
The Early College Program, for students in grades 7-12, partners with Stark State College to provide the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school, including the potential to complete an associate’s degree. The middle school program builds academic readiness, while high school students balance traditional experiences with college coursework.

For grades 4-8, STEAMM Academy offers immersive, hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and medicine. Designated as a STEAM school by Ohio, students engage in subjects like coding, culinary arts, engineering, and agriculture, exploring potential career pathways in high-demand fields.

Choices

Choices offers support and personal growth providng a unique educational experience for students in grades 9-12. Individualized learning plans are designed to meet each student's unique needs, offering a student-centered approach to education that allows for flexibility in how and what they learn. Choices empowers students to reach their full potential and prepare for a bright future as active, contributing members of their communities.


Early College @ Lehman 
The Early College Program, for students in grades 7-12, partners with Stark State College to provide the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school, including the potential to complete an associate’s degree. The middle school program builds academic readiness, while high school students balance traditional experiences with college coursework.


McKinley Senior High School 

A traditional pathway school for students in grades 9-12. The school offers a well-rounded education with a strong focus on academics, along with a variety of after-school opportunities in extracurricular activities and sports. Students at McKinley are encouraged to engage in sports, clubs, and enrichment programs that foster personal growth and leadership. The school's comprehensive approach ensures that students are prepared for success both in the classroom and beyond.
