Dave Tomey, a Timken High School alumnus, lived a life devoted to service, quietly supporting children, the elderly, and those in need. Growing up in a large, immigrant family on Canton’s Northeast end, he experienced poverty firsthand—his family never even owned a car. These early challenges shaped his compassion and lifelong commitment to helping others.
After serving in the military, Dave built a career at Conrail while supporting his family as the eldest son. He gave generously of his time and heart: delivering blankets to Refuge of Hope, shopping for winter coats for children in need, visiting nursing home residents, and preparing meals for friends who were ill. Though not wealthy, he showed that kindness requires only a good heart.
In his honor, the Pantry at the Timken Career Campus was dedicated posthumously, supported by the Tomey Family and Feed Kids First. The dedication plaque reads:
“In recognition of a life devoted to kindness, generosity, and service to others. Your legacy continues to nourish children and families through the work of Feed Kids First, ensuring every child has access to healthy food they need to learn, grow, and thrive. Feeding Children. Fueling Futures.”
Through this pantry, Dave’s legacy continues, helping children and families across the community access the healthy food they need to grow and thrive.
